Undergraduate degrees

Studying law at university will prepare you for a legal career as well as broader skills in analysis, logical reasoning and critical thinking - all of which are highly sought after in many careers.

Recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority as ‘Qualifying Law Degrees’ for 2025 entrants, all our law degrees also cover the foundations of legal knowledge required by the Bar Standards Board to satisfy the academic stage of training for barristers.

Our foundations of legal knowledge modules are also aligned with the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE), providing a solid base for you to prepare for SQE1 should you wish to qualify on the new solicitor’s route.

Postgraduate degree

Our postgraduate law degree course supports a career change to a solicitor or barrister.

Recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority as ‘Qualifying Law Degrees’ for 2021 entrants, our Law CPE and LLM Law Conversion courses cover the foundations of legal knowledge required by the Bar Standards Board to satisfy the academic stage of training for barristers.

PhD degrees

Research and knowledge exchange at the School of Business and Law are deeply rooted in the mission to promote responsible enterprise for a fairer society. We offer a wide variety of PhDs subjects at the School of Business and Law.

We also have research centres and groups which focus on the School’s particular strength in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship, Corporate Social Responsibility and Social Justice as well as Tourism and Sustainability.

Experience law in practice

Practical legal experience is embedded in our law degree courses, and we also offer extracurricular opportunities to gain Qualifying Work Experience. You can help the local community access free legal advice through initiatives such as our CLOCK Legal Companion Scheme or working in our pro bono Legal Clinic.

Paid work placements

When studying law at university you'll have the opportunity to take a year-long paid placement where you can apply your learning, build your work experience, life skills and network.

Students in the past have completed placements at Oracle, HM Prison Service, the Home Office, IBM, the House of Lords and Acumen Business Law.
